One way to make a clay project interesting, when using a glass object that is (and maybe even a metal object) is to incorporate other mediums. One medium I like to use once in a while are the stain glass paints. I cover a bottle, vase, or something else made of glass and I leave areas uncovered while working with the clay. Once the piece is cured, I fill in the voids with stain glass paint.
These paints take a while to dry, so plan ahead. You may need to do a section at a time, let it dry, then move on to the next section -- particular if it's a bottle or something that isn't flat. It allows the light to come thru without leaving plain glass showing while giving it some color. Make sure all the clay is cured...you don't want to put the piece in the oven after you've applied the stain glass paint. It will try to touch within a day, but may still be soft (can make fingernail marks, etc.) and takes a while to harden completely. [Do not store anything painted with these paints wrapped up in a paper towel (it will stick...even though it has been a long time -- particularly if it's stored in a warm place like an attic) or even a terry cloth towel...it will make texture marks.]
I haven't tried these paints on metal objects...I'll have to experiment. The light won't come thru, but it could be a nice effect with the metal behind it. I'll let you know!
